FX has Noah Hawley of "Fargo" directing a potentially epic science fiction based on Marvel's character Legion. "Legion" will feature Dan Stevens ("Downton Abbey") and Aubrey Plaza ("Parks and Recreation").

According to FX via Den of Geek, the story revolves around Dan Stevens' character David Charles Haller who suffers from schizophrenia, having trips in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Eventually having a "strange encounter" with a fellow patient, he starts realizing that the voices and visions in his head are real.

David Haller, also known as the titular Legion in the comics, is the son of Professer Charles Xavier and Gabrielle Haller. According to Comicbook, he is considered one of the most powerful in the universe with immense psionic powers, some of which include telekinesis and pyrokinesis. It was after a terrorist attack that broke his psyche that enabled his schizophrenia, with his different personalities each controlling different abilities, thus donning the name "Legion." What's frightening is that when he collects his mind altogether, he can concentrate enough power to reshape reality. In the comic books, he has actually rewritten history many times.

So with the character's connection to the "X-Men" series in the comics, it would be possible that the FX's series might have connections to the "X-Men" movies. FX CEO John Landgraf initially mentioned that "Legion" would not be involved with the movies, saying that the "films take place in a universe where everybody on planet earth is aware of the existence of mutants," where the "Legion" is set in a parallel universe where everyone, except the government, is not aware that mutants exists.

However, it was confirmed by "X-Men" director Bryan Singer that he would be involved in the project as well, along with the rest of "X-Men" team that includes Lauren Shuler Donner, and Simon Kinberg.  Singer hinted that "Legion" might have connections with the "X-Men" films, even with the planned future films. However, even so, FX's series is still well enough on its own.

Fans are looking forward to any extended lore to the Marvel universe shown in screens, especially with the "X-Men" series.  With a lot of them complaining on how the "X-Men" films' continuity is a "complete mess," they would look to the character Legion and his reality bending powers in FX's series to fix that. But, then again, it's just speculation. Fingers are being crossed here.

"Legion" will be premiering early 2017.
