After receiving mixed response from the audience for his first solo concert on Saturday, Jonghyun recognized that he has offended some of them with his acts, specifically when he played as an Indian man in a video played during the show.
As a result, the SHINee member personally wrote an apology to his fans and took responsibility of the offensive act, Allkpop cited. Jonghyun also expressed regret for offending the Indian people and promised to delete the concert video.
"It is a fault that I have no excuse for, and I bow my head in apology to everyone who was disappointed by it. I did not mean to belittle the culture of a place that is rich in history" Jonghyun said.
The SHINee member also explained the story of the concert video, stating that it was about a man who is trying to win a woman. He added it was not intention to make fun of a certain culture with his exaggerated acting in the concert video.
"I disturbed many with my lacking thoughts, and I am regretting it and looking back on my actions. I did not mean to make fun of the culture. However, I cannot excuse myself for disturbing with that video, so I bow my head in apology," he added.
Meanwhile, many fans appreciated Jonghyun more than ever for his effort to address the matter immediately. Some netizens pointed out the SHINee member's long apology, which they said is not common to all K-Pop idols.
"Apologizing is not a normal thing. Not everyone can apologize with every single detail. We can feel he acknowledged his mistake by reading his tweets. I think he did everything he can," a commenter posted.
