Philippine Veteran Actor Mark Gil Dies of Liver Cirrhosis

Veteran Philippine actor Mark Gil (Raphael Joseph Eigenmann in real life) succumbed to liver cirrhosis on September 1 at the age of 52, his family has confirmed.

"Yes, we would like to confirm the death of one of our beloved Mark Gil who just joined our creator this morning at 8 a.m. As of now, the family is in deep grieving and they want private time with him,"  a statement issued by the actor's family stated.

"Thank you and we need all your prayers for the repose soul of Mark and strength for his bereaved family."

Mark would have turned 53 on September 25 but his bout against liver cirrhosis ended his prolific career.

The Filipino actor starred in over 100 movies and 30 television series in a span of four decades. His latest project was the ABS-CBN primetime TV series "The Legal Wife", which was a huge hit among Filipino viewers.

He last starred in a movie in 2014 when he did "Ang Bagong Dugo".

Mark Gil has been considered as one of the primer actors in the Philippines. He played leading man roles and also starred as antagonists in various Philippine movies.

He was the son of actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, brother of actors Michael de Mesa and Cherie Gil. He was quarter Filipino, quarter Spanish, and half Swiss German descent.

He is the father of singer/actor Gabby Eigenmann and Ira Eigenmann from actress Irene Celebre. He is also the father of Tim "Sid Lucero" Eigenmann and Maxene "Max" Eigenmann from actress Bing Pimentel, and of Andi Eigenmann from another actress, Jaclyn Jose.

He has been married since 1996 to Maricar Jacinto-Eigenmann and they have a daughter named, Stephanie Cherie Jacinto Eigenmann.
