Followers of HBO's "Game of Thrones" might get a prequel series in the future. The latest development has been revealed by author George R.R. Martin, whose bestselling novels have been the inspiration for the hit fantasy series.
Now that the end of "Game of Thrones" is near, there's now news of a potential prequel series. Martin recently revealed to Deadline that he has some ideas about the history of Westeros and its major players. However, the famous author was quick to clarify that nothing is guaranteed - at least for now.
"I do have thousands of pages of fake history of everything that led up to Game of Thrones, so there's a lot of material there and I'm writing more," Martin told the publication.
"At the moment we still have this show to finish and I still have two books to finish so that's all speculation."
The news comes in the wake of HBO's announcement that Game of Thrones will conclude after Season 8. Its upcoming seventh season, which will be composed of only seven episodes, has been bumped for a summer premiere to accommodate the shooting schedule.
"Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing," HBO president Casey Bloys said in a report from Entertainment Weekly.
As far as the upcoming Season 7 is concerned, there have been multiple speculations going on that it will feature an alliance between Cersei Lannister and Euron Greyjoy, a return of familiar faces including Khal Drogo and Gendry and of course, more deaths.
"Game of Thrones" Season 7 premieres in the summer of 2017.
