The year 2016 has three months left and fans still haven't heard much from the sixth book in "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. In the meantime, author George R.R. Martin has plans on having a spin-off series for "Game of Thrones."

It was rumored earlier this year that the sixth of the series, "The Winds of Winter," will be released on the last quarter of 2016. According to Entertainment Weekly, however, the author's publishing company, Random House, denied these rumors. There are hopes, on the other hand, that the book will come out some time 2017, probably around March at the earliest.

Martin did previously state that he is set on releasing "The Winds of Winter" before the premiere of HBO's "Game of Thrones" Season 7 on 2017.

For the time being, while fans wait for the sixth book, Deadline interviewed George R.R. Martin on the show's progression. As the "Game of Thrones" creators plan on making the seventh (or eighth) season the last, Martin will still continue the epic fantasy saga through prequels. He revealed that he has been on a thousand pages of "fake history" of everything involving the Seven Kingdoms and the entire world of "Game of Thrones" to lead up to the series everyone knows and loves. And he won't stop there.

Fans would be overjoyed at this fact since they wouldn't want the series to end just yet. On the other hand, there those who still want to focus on the "The Winds of Winter" and the conclusion of the series.

There were also many instances that some fans had bashed and accused the famous fantasy author for focusing more on attending events instead of finishing the series. Of course, Martin seemed unfazed by the criticism and will be taking his time in accomplishing the book.
