It seems like nowadays competition in games have been evolving gradually as cross platform playing becomes a trend in consoles and PC. While games like "Rocket League" and "Final Fantasy XIV" get in the hype, unfortunately it looks like "Tekken 7" saw the potential in this for the franchise, but suddenly changed its mind for this.
In the official Twitter account of the game (as translated by user Flying Wonkey, via NeoGAF), project lead Katsuhiro Harada said last weekend that it is technically possible that Bandai Namco Entertainment to do a cross platform gameplay. However, he added that it wouldn't be wise to do so.
He mentioned that the issue might revolve around "first party company policies and potential security risks alongside the community perceived reputation of PC gamers being cheaters that is hindering the decision to allow cross platform play."
But, of course, it's not to say that Harada is already labeling the entirety of the PC gaming community as cheaters, according to PC Gamer. But it's probably mostly due to the fact that the reputation from most PC gamers being so from the testaments of console gamers. In addition to that, the "potential security risks" would most likely pertain to hacks and mods to the game. As a result, to preserve the quality gameplay for all types of gamers, Harada had to make such decision.
Then again this might not be a full decision on the director's part. "Street Fighter V", being the "Tekken" series' competitor (and friend), supports cross platform play between PS4 and PC. Harada could still reconsider scrapping that idea before the release of "Tekken 7" on 2017. But some measures might have to be taken to ensure interests of both console and PC gamers are secured.
