Preview

Cleveland has beaten the Orlando Magic in their preseason opener at home, 117-102, with LeBron James only playing 13 minutes. James played four minutes longer in the team's 108-105 win over the Philadelphia 76ers last Saturday also at the Quicken Loans Arena.

Kyrie Irving played for the first time this preseason against the Sixers and scored 15 points, the same as James' output, in only 19 minutes of action. Irving also had two rebounds and three assists.

Shooting guard Jordan McRae was again impressive off the bench with a second straight 20-point game. The former Phoenix Sun is getting heavy minutes from head coach Tyronn Lue this preseason and he had been making the most of his opportunities.

McRae shot 8-for-13 against the Magic while shooting 6-for-14 in the game versus Philly.

Another steady scorer from the bench is veteran power forward Channing Frye. Frye had 12 points in their preseason-opener before hitting 14 against the Sixers in only 11 minutes, shooting 4-for-4 from downtown.

Meanwhile, the new-look Hawks will play their first home game in the preseason after splitting their first two games on the road.

After routing the Memphis Grizzlies, 104-83, in their first game, Atlanta was beaten by the San Antonio, 102-91, in their second match.

Newly-acquired All-Star center Dwight Howard played against the Grizzlies but was not fielded in by head coach Mike Budenholzer during the game versus the Spurs.

All of his regular starters, except for power forward Mike Muscala did not appear for Budenholzer as he utilized his whole bench during the match.

Notable for the night were combo guard Malcolm Delaney and small forward Taurean Prince who scored 13 points each, playing 28 and 24 minutes respectively as starters for the Hawks.

Prediction

Lue is still expected to give a few minutes for his starters to workout and utilize his bench most of the way. James may be rested with Irving playing or the other way around. A close road win for the Cavs is predicted.
