Preview
Memphis is one of the most successful teams in this year's preseason as they managed to win four of their first five games. The only loss they had so far was against a Dwight Howard-led Atlanta Hawks at the FedEx Forum during their second game when starting point guard Mike Conley did not play.
The Grizzlies are coming off a 134-125 win over the Houston Rockets last Saturday at the Toyota Center with head coach David Fizdale's starting unit all available.
Conley and Marc Gasol both started for the squad but understandably played in limited minutes only as both have just returned from injuries they suffered last season. Conley had 19 points and seven assists in 24 minutes of exposure while Gasol netted 10 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished off three assists in 20 minutes of brilliant all-around play.
Rookie Troy Williams, who was an undrafted player from Indiana and Fizdale's chosen starting small forward, top-scored for Memphis with 23 points. The 21-year-old also had four rebounds, one assist, and four steals in an impressive performance at both ends of the floor.
Zach Randolph came off the bench and had eight points and four rebounds while Tony Allen was not fielded in by the coach.
Meanwhile, the Wolves were turned back by the Oklahoma City Thunder, 112-94, in their match on Sunday at the Chesapeake Energy Arena for their second loss in five games.
New head coach Tom Thibodeau utilized his second and third units in the match and rested his regular starters.
Serbian big man Nemanja Bjelica started and top scored for Minnesota with 11 points in 28 minutes. He also hauled down six rebounds and handed three assists in an impressive display of all-around skills.
Veteran center Cole Aldrich backed him up with 10 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots to man the middle while last June's fifth overall pick Kris Dunn had six points, two boards, and six assists.
Prediction
Another win for the Grizzlies is predicted as both clubs may choose to rest their starters in preparation for the regular season's opening next week.
