Pierce Brosnan has finally opened up his recent appearance in an Indian 'Pan Masala' advertisement. The former James Bond franchise star said that he is deeply shocked and distressed by the 'unauthorized' and 'deceptive' use of his image in pan masala brand 'Pan Bahar' television commercial.

"As a man who has spent decades championing women's healthcare and environmental protection, I was distressed to learn of Pan Bahar's unauthorized and deceptive use of my image to endorse their range of pan masala products," Brosnan said in a statement to People.com. "I would never have entered into an agreement to promote a product in India that is dangerous to one's health."

The 63-year-old "Die Another Day" actor also offered apology for his 'Pan Bahar' endorsement. "I shall endeavor to rectify this matter. In the meantime, please accept my sincerest and heartfelt apologies to all whom I have offended," the the Irish born Hollywood star said.

The owners of Indian Pan Masala brand is believed to have sought clarification from Bosnan for his claims that his contract was to promote tooth whitener and mouth freshener not cancer causing pan masala products. A company representative told Economic Times newspaper that we were in touch with actor's team to sort out the matter.

Brosnan recently faced ire of his Indian fans for his endorsement of 'Pan Bahar' pan masala - cancer causing chewing product.
