Preview
Houston has split its first four games of the season by losing to the Los Angeles Lakers on opening night, beating the Dallas Mavericks twice in a home-and-away series, and then getting beat by the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Quicken Loans Arena in their last game.
James Harden's season-high 41 points and 15 assists were not enough for the Rockets to upend the reigning champions on Tuesday night as they dropped a high-scoring 128-120 game, as per Fox Sports.
Harden also had seven rebounds and one steal in 38 minutes. He was supported by new acquisitions and fellow starters Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson, who fired 16 and 12 points respectively.
Trevor Ariza contributed 11 points also as a starter while Nene had 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists in 25 minutes coming off the bench.
Meanwhile, the Knicks suffered their second loss in their first three games with a lopsided 102-89 defeat in the hands of the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills also on Tuesday, ESPN reported.
Carmelo Anthony scored a game-high 24 points while fellow All-Star Derrick Rose had 19 points and five boards, but were not enough to give the Knicks the victory.
Kristaps Porzingis contributed 18 points and six rebounds but had a miserable shooting night from beyond the arch, going 3-for-7.
Off the bench, backup point guard Brandon Jennings netted 12 points and dished off three assists in only 19 minutes of action.
"It just didn't go down tonight," said Rose after the game. "When the shots aren't falling, we have to depend on our defense even more. We have to play the type of game where if we're having a hard time scoring, you're definitely going to have a hard time scoring. That's the mentality and culture we're trying to build."
Prediction
With the two clubs coming off a game in the previous night, Mike D'Antoni and Jeff Hornacek may pace some of their starters in this match. The Knicks are slightly favored to win playing in front of their home crowd especially if the Rockets once again struggle on defense.
