"Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them" officially confirmed that a younger Dumbledore will appear in its second instalment.
Director David Yates unveiled the news and went to say that the casting for the role is now underway. At the press junket, he teased that Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) will be sharing interesting scenes with the young Albus Dumbledore, Screen Rant reported.
"In the second movie Dumbledore comes back. He's got a couple of good scenes with Newt... We're discussing who would play Dumbledore, any suggestions would be good. [Laughs]"
While the official details of "Fantastic Beasts 2" is yet to be unveiled. However, the studio let it slip that the plot will be set in an "increasingly dark time for the wizarding world," presumably referring to Gellert Grindelwald's rise to power.
For the uninitiated, Grindelwald was considered as one of the most dangerous Dark Wizards of all time. In the books, Grindelwald forged a friendship with Dumbledore but their partnership fell apart when they were involved in a three-way duel with Aberforth Dumbledore that resulted to Ariana Dumbledore's death.
Elsewhere, it had been confirmed that "Pirates" star Johnny Depp will join the ensemble of the sequel, Deadline reported. Rumors has it that Depp will play Grindelwald, but that remains to be unconfirmed as of now.
Talking about the some insider plot for the upcoming sequel, Redmayne hintyed that there is a much bigger storyline amid Newt Scamander's adventure to find magical creatures. He went to say that the sequel will have a more nuanced storyline other than good versus evil.
"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" will be released on November 18, 2016 while the sequel will find its way to the big screens on November 16, 2018.
