"Star Trek: Discovery" has found its first character. "Memoirs of a Geisha" actress Michelle Yeoh has landed a role on the upcoming scifi series produced by CBS.
"Star Trek: Discovery" First Official Casting News
Following the news that Yeoh has been cast in an unknown role on Star Trek Discovery, a new development has emerged confirming the actress' involvement with the Bryan Fuller-produced series. In a report from Deadline, sources said that Yeoh will play Han Bo, Captain of the Starfleet Shenzhou - a vessel that is set to play a big role on Discovery's freshman run.
Yeoh is the first actress to get hired on "Star Trek: Discovery." The show has been in development since July this year, and has been teased to feature a non-white female lead and an openly gay character. Fuller, who co-created the reboot with Alex Kurtzman, has recently stepped down as showrunner.
"Star Trek: Discovery" Plot Details, Characters Description
No official plot details have been revealed until now, but it is known to take place about 10 years before the events of the original series. Back in August, Fuller revealed to reporters at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour that the driving plot of the series is about an unexplored incident that happened in the franchise's history.
"There's an incident, an event in Star Trek history in the history of Starfleet that had been talked about but never fully explored," Fuller said.
"[We're telling] that story through a character who is on a journey that is going to teach her how to get along with others in the galaxy."
"Star Trek: Discovery" Official Release Date
