With only a few weeks away from its official season 4 debut, PBS has released the first look images of the new installment of "Sherlock" starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

"Sherlock" Season 4 First Look Photos

The six newly-unveiled photos (shared via Facebook) feature some interesting snaps of Sherlock and his sidekick John Watson, who just become a first time dad. One of the highlights in the bunch is a family picture of Watson with his new born and wife, with Sherlock giving the baby a stern look in the back.

The new season's Big Bad, Culverton Smith (Toby Jones) also made his presence felt after having been teased as the show's darkest villain to date.

"There was always something charming and engaging about Moriarty," executive producer Steven Moffatt previously told Collider.

"There was something fascinating and actually amoral, rather than immoral, about Charles Augustus Magnussen. This guy is the purest evil."

Other photos in the gallery offer a behind-the-scenes look into season 4's production and an updated look of Sherlock's brother Mycroft Holmes and his landlady Mrs. Hudson.

The release of the images comes after the network dropped in July the trailer of Sherlock Season 4, which teased a looming threat for the unconventional detective. Its first episode, "The Six Thatchers" is loosely based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's short story "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons."

"Sherlock" Season 4 Number of Episodes, Potential Follow-Up Season

Like the previous installments, "Sherlock" Season 4 is also composed of only 3 episodes. Star Benedict Cumberbatch recently hinted that followers of his character might be in for a long wait before getting a Season 5, explaining that this is due to his busy film career and scheduling conflicts with his co-star Martin Freeman.
