To even add more hype to Naughty Dog's upcoming epic "The Last of Us: Part II," director Neil Druckmann has confirmed that the game will be co-written by "Westworld" writer Halley Gross.
According to his Twitter page, Druckmann had announced Gross's involvement in the sequel to the zombie survival adventure, saying that "Halley's my kickass co-writer." He further added: "Can't wait to share more of the story with y'all. Spoiler alert: it's intense."
Gross has worked on a few episodes of HBO's "Westworld" series like "Trompe L'Oeil" and "The Adversary," while she worked as a story editor for the other episodes like "The Stray" and "Chestnut."
Earlier reports also confirmed the protagonist as Ellie this time, instead of the first game's Joel. Naughty Dog has released a teaser trailer showing Ellie more grown up playing guitar in a house full of dead bodies. When confronted by Joel if she would push through with her "plans," Ellie vowed to kill "every last one of them."
Ellie has been already playable for a few times in "The Last of Us" and was a main character in the first game's DLC "Left Behind."
Druckmann also mentioned in the earlier article that "The Last of Us: Part II" will have a darker tone compared to the father-daughter love kind of relationship players first experienced in the first game. The director also described the sequel to be a "counter" to the first, saying that it's all "about hate and how we use all of those same things to make the player feel that."
Druckmann also expressed his love for getting back into the game with "The Last of Us: Part II," saying: "I can't tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure."
The creative director also mentioned that "The Last of Us: Part II" does not have a specific release date announced yet, being a little "ways off."
