George Karl has a long tenure in the NBA as a coach and he is one of the most respected coach. He currently prepares his memoir titled “Furious George” which has drawn controversy from players and former players.
One of the controversial remarks is his opinion about Carmelo Anthony as reported by New York Post that has received an advance copy. He criticized Anthony for his incapacity as a leader during his six years time coaching Denver Nuggets, but he acknowledged Anthony as the best offensive player he ever coached.
“Carmelo was a true conundrum for me in the six years I had him. He was the best offensive player I ever coached,” Karl wrote. “He was also a user of people, addicted to the spotlight and very unhappy when he had to share it.”
Anthony worked with Karl from January 2005 to February 2011, and together they built a good offensive team. But Karl was frustrated for Anthony’s reluctance to improve his defensive skills, while Anthony was also upset with Karl’s relentless criticism. When his contract ended in 2011, Anthony refused to extend his contract and joined the Knicks.
Meanwhile in Karl’s memoir “Furious George” there will something missing. According to ESPN, Karl’s tenure in the Sacramento Kings was reported to be removed from the book. The book which was co-authored by Curt Sampson includes some blatant views about the team which he coached for one year.
He criticized Sacramento Kings, from the star player DeMarcus Cousins, general manager Vlade Divac and owner Vivek Ranadive. However, according to ESPN source, Karl’s point of view on Sacramento Kings will be omitted from the book which scheduled to publish in January 2017.
Karl is one of the nine NBA coaches who has won more than 1,000 games in their coaching career. In his entire career, he has won 1,175 games. Other coaches who won more than 1,000 games are Rick Adelman, Lenny Wilkens, Larry Brown, Phil Jackson, Don Nelson, Gregg Popovich, Pat Riley, and Jerry Sloan.
