"Arrow" has plotted a new dangerous arc that will involve Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and his new love interest, Susan Williams (Carly Pope).
The midseason finale of "Arrow" saw Oliver and Susan locking lips in the middle of a serious conversation, as she urged him to not shut people out. Although many fans have assumed that the duo has done the deed before Oliver went back to his lair, executive producer Wendy Mericle has debunked this theory in a recent chat with TV Line.
"I understand that some on Twitter have a radically different opinion," Mericle told the publication.
"But in my mind, they did not [have sex]. The intention was that they did not."
Sex may be out of the equation for the new lovebirds, at least for now. But this doesn't mean that they are not headed towards a more complicated path. When the hit CW series returns in January, viewers should expect to see the duo diving deeper into their brewing romantic relationship, as well as into some murky waters that will test them along the way.
"They're going to go 'all in' [on the relationship] at some point, for sure. But one of the things that's interesting about [Susan] is that they do have a genuine relationship - she really does care about Oliver, and vice versa - and yet she has been on this track of trying to find out who he is and what he's up to. And not just as the mayor, but beyond that," Mericle previewed.
"Susan is going to be asking some hard questions and that's going to put both of them into physically and emotionally dangerous territory."
If Oliver really wants to pursue a relationship with Susan, it will be interesting to see how he'll navigate his double life while he keeps her close by. The series has still 14 more episodes down the line, so fans must definitely tune in as to how this arc will play out.
"Arrow" resumes its fifth season on Wednesday, Jan. 25 on the CW.
