The new year is not stopping the old enemies of Barry Allen to come back and track him for another match. A new development has emerged confirming that one of The Flash's villains, in the form of Gorilla Grodd, will be making a return appearance in the back half of Season 3.
David Sobolov, the actor who voices the gorilla monster, revealed via a Twitter post that Grodd is in fact going head to head again with the Scarlet Speedster sometime in 2017. Fans will remember that Grodd made his Flash debut in season 1's episode, aptly titled "Grodd Lives."
"Happy New Grodd! #Grodd comes back in 2017 on @CW_TheFlash !" Sobolov tweeted.
As to what brings back the sentient gorilla on "The Flash" is yet to be determined. Sobolov hints that there will be "more news soon when Warner Brothers unseals my lips."
The news comes after executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour that a two-part episode set in Gorilla City is being planned for the current season.
"Yes, we're going to be doing a two-part episode that takes place in Gorilla City," Kreisberg told the panel back in August.
When "The Flash" returns for its midseason premiere, Barry will travel to the future in an effort to stop Savitar from killing Iris. But whether or not his time travelling skills do save the love of his life remains to be seen. As executive producer Aaron Helbing recently teased "the future is malleable. Anything can happen."
Helbing also previewed that Barry's mission to rescue Iris will be the primary arc of the remaining episodes.
"Obviously Barry loves Iris more than anything and now that he has gotten a glimpse of the future, the thrust of the back half of the season is Barry trying to do whatever it takes to save her."
"The Flash" returns on Tuesday, Jan, 24th on the CW.
