‘3 Idiots’ sequel in works, teases Amir Khan

Bollywood's most sought-after actor Amir Khan may have teased a sequel to 2009's blockbuster hit "3 Idiots," according to reports. Yes, there is a chance that the trio, Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan), Raju Rastogi (Sharman Joshi) and Rancho (Amir Khan), might be back for a new adventure.

According to DNA India, Amir Khan made the big announcement during a press conference that marked the 10th anniversary of National Film Award winning movie "Rang De Basanti," also starring the trio. Speaking to the reporters, Khan said that there is a possibility that he will be sharing screen space with Joshi and Madhavan once again.

During the conference, the actor was asked that when will he reunite with Joshi and Madhavan again. Responding to the question, Khan said, "Raju (Rajkumar Hirani, the "3 Idiots" director) some time ago mentioned that he has found a story for 3 Idiots (sequel), so maybe we will reunite soon. Don't make it as a breaking news."

While there are no more details for the movie available, fans will have to wait until an official announcement by the moviemakers is made. In the meantime, Bollywood Life notes that Hirani had once given a statement that he and Abhijat Joshi has "cracked an idea for the '3 Idiots' sequel." The director has said that he will start working on the second instalment of the movie that was based on Chetan Bhagat's novel "Five Point Someone" after they finish Sanjay Dutt's biopic and Munnabhai Sequel.

As for Khan, he is currently filming his highly anticipated movie "Dangal" slated to be released on Dec. 23. Meanwhile, Madhavan starrer "Saala Khadoos" was recently released on Jan. 22.

Directed by Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, "3 Idiots" became the highest grossing films in the opening weekend and highest net collections in the first week for a Bollywood film in India when it was released. The film won several accolades and awards in and outside India. The movie won three awards at the 57th National Film Awards and it was also honoured as Best Outstanding Foreign Language Film in 37th Japanese Academy Awards.
