Entertainment Golden Globes after party sponsored by Chrysler on January 8, 2017 in Beverly Hills, California.

Tom Ford's sci-fi thriller "Nocturnal Animals" is the surprise top-tier among the nominees of this years' BAFTAs. "La La Land" is leading the nominees after its successful turn out at the Golden Globes while "Arrival" and "Nocturnal Animals" are tied in second with 9 nominations each.

The musical starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone is nominated to 11 categories including Best Film. The film took home 7 wins out of 8 nominations in the recent Golden Globes - a record for most wins in one night.

Shocked at the Golden Globes win, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has earned another nomination for his work on "Nocturnal Animals." On the other hand, "Manchester by the Sea" earned six nominations and its lead Casey Affleck also got a nod for the Best Actor category, Yahoo! News reported.

Elsewhere, Emily Blunt ("Girl On the Train"), Natalie Portman ("Jackie"), Meryl Streep ("Florence Foster Jenkins"), Amy Adams ("Nocturnal Animals") and Emma Stone ("La La Land") all have some solid resume when they duke it out for the Best Actress Category. This is the 15th time that Streep had been nominted for BAFTA which she won 1982 and 2012 for "The Iron Lady" and "The French Lieutenant's Woman."

Speaking of Streep, the Oscar-winner actress recently received an unsavory review for her acting skills courtesy of Donald Trump. Trump said that Streep is one of the most "overrated" actresses of all time after Streep addressed distaste for Trump's well-publicized mockery of a reporter Serge F. Kovaleski who has a disability, The Washington Post reported.

"It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can't get it out of my head because it wasn't in a movie. It was real life," she said.
