Only three episodes remain for "Goblin: The Lonely and Great God," but viewers are in for a longer waiting period after episode 14's air date was pushed back to a later date. However, that did not stop avid fans from speculating about how the show is going to end. This includes a lot of magical and fantastical aspects of the storyline, which are all expected to tie up in the series' finale.
What caused 'Goblin' episodes' delay
Initially, reports speculated that the delay in airing the last three "Goblin" episodes were caused by logistical mishaps. For one, it was earlier reported that actors Gong Yoo and Lee Dong-wok were exhausted and fell ill due to the weather. Another report speculated that the "Goblin" crew ran out of time to film.
However, the staff of "Goblin" clarified that the delay was partly due to them wanting to focus more on the "magical and fantastical" aspects of the story, Koreaboo reported. They wanted to do justice to their fantasy drama genre, and wanted to make sure that the computer graphics won't look tacky.
Special effects in 'Goblin'
According to the International Business Times, this is necessary since computer-generated visual effects also helps lower the budget for any sequence that requires actual location shoots. For fantasy dramas like "Goblin," VFX is a necessity to portray the supernatural elements of the show.
Furthermore, the need to use a lot of computer graphics meant that they needed more time to do post-production, the same publication reported. Despite that, episode 14 is still expected to air on Jan. 20, while the episodes 15 and 16 will air consecutively on Jan. 21.
Spoilers: 'Goblin' finale to feature a death?
However, fans are nervous about the 'Goblin' series finale, since it's believed that either Eun Tak or Kim Shin will die. If Eun Tak decides not to pull the sword from Kim Shin's chest, she will cease to exist, but if she does, Kim Shin will die after 900 years of living on this earth, according to IBT-India.
