For a record-breaking fourth consecutive year, popular South Korean boy band EXO EXO bagged the Daesang (grand prize) for the 26th Seoul Music Awards last Jan. 19. They also successfully brought home two other awards: the Fandom School Award and a Bonsang (main prize). The wildly popular K-pop group also bagged 4 other Daesangs from other award-giving bodies during this year, making them the most highly decorated group this award season with 21 awards.
Other awards for EXO
Apart from the Seoul Music Awards, the group also brought home the Daesang singer during the 2016 Asia Artist Awards, Artist of the Year during the 2016 Melon Music Awards, their fourth consecutive win for Album of the Year in the 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards and their fourth consecutive win for the Disk Daesang during the 2017 Golden Disk Awards, according to All K-Pop.
Their latest award, the Daesang for the 26th Seoul Music Awards, was held on 19. EXO, which currently consists of 9 members: Suho, Xiumin, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O, Kai and Sehun, thanked their fans for their continuous support and appreciation.
During the ceremonies, Suho, EXO leader, thanked the group's fans and said his least regret was becoming a member of the popular boy band. Baekhyun, meanwhile, promised that the group would continue to make their fans "laugh, cry, be happy, and be proud" of them this year. The group also performed one of their hits, "Monster," for the night's encore performance.
What's next for EXO this year
As for what fans can expect from EXO this year, Chanyeol emphasized that the fans have always been their number one motivation and source of strength. In return, he said, EXO promises to "go back to their roots" and continue to release great music for their fans, according to Soompi.
As of last year, EXO's last three albums sold over one million copies each. The group is also starting its latest and largest tour yet, which will kickstart in Manila, Philippines, with "EXO PLANET #3: THE EXO'RDIUM IN MANILA," on Feb. 25-26, according to the International Business Times.
