The Los Angeles Lakers are expected to trade either Nick Young and their leading scorer Lou Williams before NBA trade deadline next week. Today, Lou Williams is reportedly drawing attention of the Cleveland Cavaliers and is rumored to be the Cavs' target.
The Cavaliers is rumored to have an interest with Lou Williams as the team is currently in deep search of a backup point guard to Kyrie Irving. After acquiring Derrick Williams from the NBA waivers two weeks ago and since the Cavs are likely to sign Derrick Williams for the rest of the season as LeBron James' requested, the team is expected to sign a new point guard to complete their roster before the NBA Playoffs start.
Lou Williams is leading the Los Angeles Lakers this season in scoring despite coming off the bench. He has been a great contributor to each of the four teams he was signed with, in which he played the role of the sixth man.
The Cavaliers would definitely increase their chances of winning a back-to-back title if Lou Williams will be added to their core. The former Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams can play both shooting and point guard position, a reliable playmaker and a great scoring option.
According to the Lakers Nation, the Lakers are actively shopping the veteran Lou Williams. Several teams around the league are now starting to drop their offer on the Lakers front office and Cavaliers are one of those.
As per the Sportsrageous reported, the Cavaliers held a point guard tryout earlier this month as a response to LeBron James' request. Among the players who attended the tryout are James' ex-teammate Mario Chalmers, former Lakers' guard Jordan Farmar, the reliable playmaker Kirk Hinrich and the so-called James' rival, Lance Stephenson. Until today, the Cavaliers hasn't chosen anyone since they opted to sign Derrick Williams 2 weeks ago to help them in rebound.
The Cavaliers now have an open slot after sending the injured Chris Andersen to the Hornets earlier this week. The newly vacant slot is expected to fill in by a backup point guard, in the likes of Lou Williams or any of the players who attended the tryout.
