PD of tvN's popular "Reply" series will soon return with a new project that revolves around the life behind the bars. In fact, Shin Won Ho hinted about his plans for the casting of the upcoming prison drama.
"We are currently casting the main characters for the drama. We are casting regardless of popularity and name recognition," he said as per Soompi.
Shin Won Ho added, "The actors will be chosen based on their acting ability and individual character. We are always looking for new faces so we are starting with rookie actors; however, nothing has been confirmed yet."
The "Reply" series PD also revealed that the upcoming drama will be set inside the prison; however, Shin Won Ho emphasized that the series will be different from the typical prison dramas.
He added his upcoming project will feature the lives of inmates, their struggles and the reasons that led them to the prison. Unlike other prison dramas, Shin Won Ho's newest project will combine the elements of dark and comedy.
For his newest project, Shin Won Ho will collaborate with writers Jung Go Eun and Lee Woo Jung. After wrapping up the prison drama, the PD promised to return with a new installment of "Reply" series.
Last year, rumor has it that Shin Won Ho is planning to release a new "Reply" drama in 2017. According to Allkpop, CJ E&M denied the claims and revealed that they have yet to discuss the matter with the PD.
Contrary to the label's statement, a source affiliated with Shin Won Ho stated that the PD is eyeing to gather all staff members from the previous "Reply" series for the new installment.
Also, fans of the popular tvN series speculated that the new drama will either be "Reply 1980" or "Reply 1974," stating that Shin Won Ho allegedly mentioned the latter in one of his talks.
