The Golden State Warriors are reportedly about to sign Matt Barnes to as the team sends their star Kevin Durant to the rehab due to the knee injury. Matt Barnes was waived by the Sacramento Kings last week and is now eligible to sign with any team he chooses.
According to NBA.com, Kevin Durant has suffered to hyperextended left knee during the first 2 minutes against the Wizards. The Warriors eventually lost to the Wizards ending with 108 - 112 last Wednesday.
CBS Sports shows that the Dubs will sign Jose Calderon first before adding Matt Barnes for the rest of the season as Durant was announced to be out for four weeks. Durant is scheduled for an MRI this week after his teammate Zaza Pachulia feel to his leg while entangled with Marcin Gortat of the Washington Wizards.
Meanwhile, Matt Barnes will be joining the cast to replace Durant. Fortunately, Barnes will be a part of the powerhouse team for the remainder of the season.
Matt Barnes could be a big help to the team even if Durant is around. Known to be a great defender, Barnes could provide more defensive stability for the team. Barnes can lock up to defense from the perimeter down to the driving lane.
The 36-year old veteran forward can increase the winning odds of the team once the lineup played without injuries. Barnes could be a great backup forward to Durant for defensive stops, but the team will likely lose some floor-stretch due to Barnes' inaccurate shooting skills.
With Jose Calderon and Matt Barnes being the newest addition the contending Warriors, the two veterans will add more depth to the bench. Apart from that, the two will be a great mentor to the young core of the team.
Warriors have already clinched their berth in the upcoming NBA Playoffs a few days ago. The team is really serious to take back the crown from the defending champions, Cleveland Cavaliers.
