Alexa Bliss made history on Sunday by beating Bayley to become the first woman to hold the SmackDown and RAW women's championship. The feisty WWE superstar continues her mercurial rise in WWE women's division with another title around her waist.
While Bliss lacks the offensive arsenal to dominate a match, she always uses her wits to overcome all challenges and end up with a victory in big matches.
She proved it once again after Bayley suffered two blows in the head. Instead of using his Sparkle Splash, Bliss uses vicious DDT to end Bayley's first reign as women's champ.
Closing sequence of the match: Bayley goes to the top and hits the big Macho Man elbow drop for a 2 count. Bayley end up getting sent into the turnbuckle and the ring post, which leads to Bliss hitting a DDT for the pin and the title.
Bayley vs. Bliss championship match receives positive feedback from wrestling writers, including Bleacher Report writer Dave Schilling who lauded Bayley's performance in the losing effort.
"That was one of Bayley's best matches since getting called up to the main roster. Hope they keep these two together for a few more matches, writes Schilling.
CBS Sports.com writer Brian Campbell was impressed by Bliss' performance, calling her the company's best heel next to four-time WWE RAW women's champ Charlotte Flair.
"Real physical stuff here from Bliss. She's slowly making a run at Charlotte for top female wrestler in the company," according to Campbell, who is also an MMA and boxing writer.
Meanwhile, Chris Jericho just became a two-time United States champion after beating Kevin Owens in their Wrestlemania 33 rematch at WWE Payback 2017.
Closing sequence of the match: Owens with a poke to the eye for a close roll-up. Owens with a kick to the mouth. Owens can't get the pop-up powerbomb because of his finger. Jericho gets the Walls applied in the middle of the ring again. This leads to Owens tapping out for the win.
With the victory, Jericho joined the SmackDown roster while Owens stays on the Blue Brand to resume rivalry with his former best-friend. It would be interesting how the no.1 contender A.J Styles would enter the title picture, as the Jeri-KO rivalry seems not over yet.
