Crime-thriller drama "Tunnel" sets a new record for the cable network OCN. Only two remaining episodes are expected to air before the series finally wraps up.
During the May 14 broadcast of the drama, it peak a 7.1 percent rating, with an average rating of 6.3 percent, making it the highest rating in OCN's history. The milestone defeated Jang Hyuk and Lee Ha Na's drama series "Voice" which recorded a 5.6 percent viewership rating.
During a press conference earlier, Choi Jin Hyuk claimed that the show will exceed a 6 percent rating, which had come true today. After hearing the good news, the 31-year old actor said, "I had just mentioned that in order to encourage everyone to work hard," Allkpop quoted.
Choi continued, "It all feels like a dream. I too have fallen for 'Tunnel,' not as an actor but as a fellow viewer."
It is worth noting that drama had a week of rest this month to improve its quality. "In time for the holidays in May, we will postpone broadcasts of episode 13 and 14, originally planned to air on May 6 and 7, and air some movies in place of them," said a source from "Tunnel" as reported by Soompi.
The source also claimed that they had re-run a series of past episodes back-to-back before their scheduled air time on May 13. It is said that series will be dealing with more important aspects during the second half, which is the main reason why the staff had decided to have a week break.
"Tunnel" follows the story of Detective Park Gwang Ho (Choi) in 1986 who desperately tries to catch a serial killer that goes through a tunnel. On the other side of the tunnel, Detective Park finds himself in year 2017.
He then learns that the serial killer has resumed the killings which began 30 years ago. Together with Detective Kim Sun Jae (Yoon Hyun Min) and Professor Shin Jae Yi (Lee Yoo Young) of Criminal Psychology, Detective Park will once again try to catch the killer.
