"The Voice of China," Tay Kewei, is back on stage after a 7-year break. The singer-songwriter expressed her joy of performing saying music has always been her oxygen.
Tay Kewei's last ticketed show was in the year 2009 at the Esplanade Recital Hall. Now, she is back to sing for a bigger crowd, in a larger hall, at the same place she held her last concert. The producers have released around 900 tickets for the show.
Kewei's comeback performance at the Esplanade Concert Hall has been described as powerful. She sang a special song for the occasion entitled "Qi Nian Zhi Yang" (translated as "Seven Year Oxygen") to express how she feels to be back and to describe how music has become a pillar for her.
Tay surprised her fans by singing four different songs in four different languages. The audience heard her sing in English when she covered Justine Timberlake's Song "Can't Stop This Feeling." She also sang her rendition of "Descendants of the Sun" theme song, "You Are My Everything." She went on to sing in Japanese while showcasing her talent on different instruments including the Piano, Guitar, Erhu, and Ukelele.
Her father, Tay Soon Dee, was a special guest at her show. He played the Dizi on stage accompanied by Kewei with the Erhu. She also had a duet with her husband, singer Alfred Lim. They performed their special song entitled "Yi Ai Wei Hao" (translated as "Proud of Love"). She also sang the title track of her 2014 album Zhuan Shen Wei Xiao (translated as "Turn Back and Smile") with her another special guest, Singer-actress Bonnie Loo.
She concluded her two-hour concert with the song "Qi Nian Zhi Yang."
