Bran Cranston has joined the cast of the 2017 remake of Power Rangers. The actor will play the role of Zordon, the galactic sage mentor of the Power Rangers, and nemesis of Rita Repulsa (played by Elizabeth Banks).

Cranston broke the news via Twitter on Wednesday.

This is not the first time Cranston has been linked to the Power Rangers franchise. In the 1990s, the actor voiced the characters of Snizard and Twin Man on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series.

Cranston, known for his role as drug kingpin Walter White on Breaking Bad, will join a group of young actors portraying the titular super power characters. The cast includes Becky G as Yellow Ranger Trini, Ludi Lin as Black Ranger Zack, Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger Jason, Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger Kimberly, and RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger Billy.

Set in the fictional town of Angel Grove, the 2017 reboot will depict the adventures of five high schoolers who are on a mission to save planet Earth from an alien invasion.

The upcoming big screen adaptation of the 90s kids television show will be produced by Haim Saban, Brian Casentini, Marty Bowen, and Wyck Godfrey. Meanwhile, Dean Israelite will direct the movie with Allison Shearmur as its executive producer.

The screenplay for the movie was co-written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama.

The producers of the project have revealed that they are hoping to create multiple sequels of Power Rangers in the future.

"We are really, really excited about the 'Power Rangers' movie...We could see doing five or six or seven," Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer told Comic Book Resources.

Shooting for Power Rangers reboot has already started in British Columbia, Canada. The movie is set to be released on March 24, 2017.
