Song Joong-ki to Pause Asian Tour to Film 'Battleship Island'

Song Joong-ki's agency has announced that the actor will take a break from his on-going Asian Tour because of his commitment to film "Battleship Island." Blossom Entertainment also revealed that fans will have to wait until fall to see Song back on the screen, Asia Times reported.

In "Battleship Island," Song will play the role of an independence fighter, Park Moo-young. The movie will portray how the citizens of Korea were exploited at the Hashima Island back in 1940. The actor's character will sneak into "Battleship Island" in an attempt to save one of the members of his team.

CJ Entertainment has revealed that the shooting of the film has started in North Chungcheong province.  Song will begin filming his role after his fan meeting in Taipei this past Saturday. Although the next destination of  his tour has not been confirmed, the agency announced that he will have to pause his tour.

During a previous interview with Movie News Guide, Song stated how he wanted to follow the footsteps of the renowned actor, Leonardo de Caprio. The statement came following were rumors that Song wants to leave Korea and try his luck in Hollywood.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Song will not be part of the next season of "Descendants of the Sun." According to Movie News Guide, the production crew will attempt to live up to the expectations of the first season despite the fact that leading stars Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-ko will not be part of the project.
