Many comic-to-movie fans have been anticipating the release of "Suicide Squad," the Warner Bros. film that brings together a group of highly dangerous DC villains for an equally dangerous mission, but many got upset at the negative reviews given by film reviewers following the premiere on Monday, Aug. 1.

"A talented cast entangled in a meager plot, reciting poorly written lines, showing off as puppets with no other purpose than looking cool under chaotic machine gun fire and pyrotechnics," wrote reviewer Pierluigi Puccini on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. "A new pseudo dark and disappointing cash grab in the ill-conceived canon of DC adaptations. Aspires to charm, to move, and to make laugh without scratching any note."

Kenneth Turan of the Los Angeles Times says that the film is "a concept in search of a story worth telling," while Christy Lemire of RogerEbert.com describes it as "massive, messy and noisy" and that "it stinks."

Thus far, it has received a 31 percent rating on the Rotten Tomato's Tomatometer and has gained a 4.9 average out of 10 from 129 reviews. Reportedly, the critic consensus is that, while it has good actors and has more humor than previous DC films, those were just not enough to make up for the "muddled plot, thinly written characters, and choppy directing."

Fans, however, were reportedly upset at the reviews, and one fan, named Abdullah Coldwater from Egypt, even started a petition to shut down Rotten Tomatoes. He did clarify that a petition won't really shut the site down; nonetheless, his aim is to let critics know that many people disagree with what they say. The petition has so far gained more than 17,500 supporters.

"Suicide Squad," starring Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, and Cara Delevingne, will hit theaters on Friday, Aug. 5.
