Another image show them in a forest, while three screenshots place the two characters in an environment way up in the mountains.
One image also showed the protagonist negotiating a rope bridge while Trico watches from atop a column,Dual Shockers reported.
The game's story deals with an unnamed boy who had been kidnapped and taken to a castle. The boy eventually escapes and meets Trico. The player steers the boy, who must take care of Trico. The two work as a team to help each other escape from guards who pursue them the whole time. Along the way, they develop their relationship as they negotiate obstacles and puzzles.
The fantasy RPG from Sony has been in development since 2007. It was initially announced as a title for the PlayStation 3; however, Team Ico encountered various delays caused by technical reasons but they were able to complete enough material to debut the game in the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
The delays were compounded by the departure of game director Fumito Ueda and some Team Ico members from Sony in December 2011. Ueda and lead programmer Jinji Horagai eventually founded independent game studio genDESIGN that continues to support the development of "The Last Guardian." in partnership with Sony's Japan Studio.
In 2012, Sony made the decision to release "The Last Guardian" to the PlayStation 4, wherein Sony Worldwide Studios chief Shuhei Yoshida said that game's release on the said platform will make "The Last Guardian" faithful to Ueda's vision, Eurogamer has learned.
Sony reintroduced "The Last Guardian" to fans in 2015 during the E3 event, wherein a playable demo was made available for journalists in the said event. In the same event, Sony announced that the game will be released exclusively for PS4 on Oct. 25.
