"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" newcomer Gabriel Luna has spoken about his character Robbie Reyes / Ghost Rider, and what it brings to the MCU.
The self-confessed Marvel Comics fan said that the show's take on the character will stay true to its history and mythos in the comics, IGN reported. He likened his character as Thor's rainbow bridge that should fill the gap between magic and reality.
"The magical element is new to the world. They've always been rooted in a very realistic kind of depiction. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a bridge between us the audience and the MCU," he said.
Showrunner Maurissa Tancharoen said that the series will try to blend the two concepts but the details might be a bit murky to even comprehend. The character will likely set the jump-off point before mysticism is fully explained in the film side of the MCU with "Doctor Strange."
His co-star Chloe Bennet who plays Daisy Johnson in the show said that in this season, the series will try to explain the "Ghost Rider" abilities with science, Screen Rant reported. Bennet also hinted that she will be sharing a lot of screen-time with Luna. The Season 4 synopsis teased that Luna's character could either be a friend or foe to S.H.I.E.L.D in service of his agenda.
In the comic books, "Ghost Rider" is the name coined for several fictional antihero characters. In particular, Luna's role, Robbie Reyes, is a vigilante possessed by a man named Eli Morrow, a demonic being with a flaming helmet-like head.
Prior to joining the show, Luna played the titular role in "Matador." "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" Season 4 will premiere on September 20.
