USA Network's highly-acclaimed series, "Mr. Robot," has been officially renewed for Season 3. The cable network has announced the news on Tuesday. In other developments, the official mobile game of the hacker drama is now available on Apple and Android devices.
In the middle of airing its second season, "Mr. Robot" received an early renewal for Season 3, Deadline has learned. The new set of episodes have been set for a 2017 release by USA. Casting additions and beginning of production are expected to be announced on a later date.
The decision to grant "Mr. Robot" another season no longer comes as a surprise, as the hacker drama quickly established itself as one of the breakout series in 2015. The ratings of the sophomore season, however, were not so impressive compared to its freshman run. Nonetheless, the positive reviews from critics and fans have earned the show its position in the most-watched list on television.
"We couldn't be more proud of Mr. Robot, a series that has pushed boundaries, captured the cultural zeitgeist, and been honored as one of the best dramas on television," said NBC Universal Cable Entertainment President Chris McCumber in a statement.
"Midway through its second season, Mr. Robot continues to break new ground and open up new opportunities for the network."
In other "Mr. Robot" updates, Endgadget reported that the official mobile game of the hacker drama is now available on Apple and Android devices. The newly-released app, "Mr. Robot: 1.5exfiltration," is formatted like a direct messaging platform on the fictional corporation of E.Corp. The objective of the game is to hunt for data to uncover the evils that "lurk at the company's heart," the site wrote.
"Mr. Robot" Season 2 airs every Wednesday at 10PM on USA Network.
