Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is reportedly targeting FC Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi to solve his squad's current "defensive woes" as the summer transfer window approaches its deadline in two weeks.

The Mirror reported that the 49-year-old German mentor "could turn to Porto center back Bruno Martins Indi to solve his defensive woes" with the Reds this season.

Liverpool's problem on defense was evident during their 4-3 win over Arsenal in the two team's 2016-2017 Premier League opener on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium. While Klopp and his men won the contest, the head coach does not expect his side to win via high-scoring games every time and so the search for an ideal backfield player is said to be ongoing at the Anfield.

The 24-year-old Holland international is reportedly "capable of playing both at the heart of defense and also left back", which is exactly the kind of versatility Klopp needs for his backfield at this moment.

Reds defender Alberto Moreno has received a lot of criticisms as of late because of his recent poor performances. The manager is quick to defend his player, saying that the team has unique, individual defenders who "defend together differently" and that "there's a reason" why Moreno played the way he did during their squeaker over the Gunners.

"That's what I'm thinking about, not what other people want me to think about," Klopp said. "I really don't understand the question. Tell me! The world is not happy with our left back or what?"

However, despite his defense on Moreno, Klopp admitted that they need to upgrade their options at the position to remain in their course for the Premier League title this term.

Caught Offside indicated that Klopp "wants additional options at center back following the departure of Martin Skrtel and with Mamadou Sakho's future in doubt".

Martins Indi had just finished his second season with Porto and had appeared in a total of 71 games in all competitions for the Portuguese powerhouse club, scoring twice in the process.

He began his senior career at Feyenoord in 2010 and played for the Eredivisie side for four seasons before he was acquired by the Dragons in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee of €7.7 million.
