"Supernatural" Season 12 will feature the guest appearance of Rick Springfield as Lucifer. The Australian musician/actor has teased what fans can expect from his iconic and sinister character in a recent interview.
When "Supernatural" returns for its Season 12, viewers will find Springfield taking on the role of the "fallen angel." Speaking with Billboard, he said that playing Lucifer has been an enjoyable experience, previewing that his arc in the new season was well-written. As announced at Comic Con, he will appear in a recurring basis throughout Season 12.
"I play this rock guy who gets possessed by Lucifer, because Lucifer has just escaped from wherever they put him last season," Springfield told the publication.
"He's always looking for a human host to do this bad stuff to the world, and I happen to be that human host.
Springfield, whose recent TV credits include HBO's "True Detective" and Showtime's "Californication," will make his debut in "Supernatural" Season 12 premiere episode. He will be next seen on the indie film, "Traces" - which stars Pablo Schreiber and Sosie Bacon.
In addition to Lucifer's storyline, "Supernatural" Season 12 will also delve on the return of Mary Winchester. As previewed by executive producer Andrew Dabb via TV Line, viewers will discover a secret about Mary's past as new episodes roll-out this fall. Subsequently, it will be a central plot for Sam and Dean to unearth the truth behind their mother's history.
"The story's always been, 'Once Mary married John and settled down, she stopped hunting'," Dabb said.
"But we're going to find out maybe that's not the whole story."
"Supernatural" stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padelecki. Season 12 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 9PM on the CW.
