"Tinker Bell" actress Reese Witherspoon and "The Mindy Project" star Mindy Kaling might join Oprah Winfrey in Disney's adaptation of "A Wrinkle in Time." Ava DuVernay is on board to direct the film.
Witherspoon and Kaling are already in talks to join the cast of "A Wrinkle in Time," Variety reported. Witherspoon will play a former celestial being Mrs. Whatsit who looks like a very old woman. Kaling will play the literature-quoting Mrs. Who. Winfrey is joining them as Mrs. Which.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story of the Newbery Medal-winning book "A Wrinkle in Time" is about a young girl who finds herself on an interplanetary journey with her schoolmate and her younger brother to find her missing scientist father. Three supernatural beings known as the "Mrs." are going to help them on their quest.
"A Wrinkle in Time" is the first book in Madeleine L'Engle's classic children's book "Time Quartet" series. The book series includes "A Wind in the Door," "Many Waters," and "A Swiftly Tilting Planet."Jennifer Lee writes the adaptation of L'Engle's book for Disney. She wrote and co-directed "Frozen" with Chris Buck.
Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand are the producers of "A Wrinkle in Time." Tendo Nagenda and Jessica Virtue are overseeing for the studio. The production is scheduled to start shooting this coming November in Los Angeles.
"A Wrinkle in Time" is the first Disney movie that Witherspoon will be doing since her hit "Sweet Home Alabama" movie back in 2002. She recently wrapped production on HBO's "Big Little Lies" and is also expected to shoot "Home Again" for Hallie Meyers-Shyer this fall. She also voices a character in the animated feature "Sing." She is repped by CAA, LBI, and Hansen Jacobson.
Kaling voiced the character Disgust in the Oscar-winning "Inside Out." She is the star of Hulu's "The Mindy Project" TV series. She is in preparation for the all-female version of "Ocean's 11" named as "Oceans Ocho." She is repped by CAA, 3 Arts Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham.
