Beijing police formally arrested Hong Kong actor Jaycee Chan, son of Chinese martial art film star Jackie Chan, on suspicion of allowing other people to consume drugs, reported Chinanews.com on Wednesday.

The Dongcheng District prosecutor's office made an announcement to approve the formal arrest of Jaycee Chan (Chan Zu-ming) following the request from Dongcheng Police a week earlier on its official Sina Weibo on Wednesday.

Police will continue to investigate the case until more proof is received during the period of formal arrest. If the police decide to criminally charge Chan, he may be sentence of detention, surveillance with fine penalty or the sentence of maximum three years' imprisonment for allowing others to take drugs in a property.

Chan, 31, was be detained in a huge anti-drug crackdown by Chinese authorities on August 14 in his Beijing's house along with a few people including Taiwan movie star Kai Ko (Ko Chen-tung). Police said that the two actors had tested positive for marijuana and admitted using the drug. Police took over 100 grams of the drug from Chan's house.

Ko, 23, was given a sentence of 14 days in administrative detention and was released on August 29. After released, Ko apologized for using drugs in a news conference with his parents and agent in both Beijing and Taiwan.

According to Chinese CCTV's earlier report, Chan has been taking drugs for eight years. He felt ashamed as a celebrity and was heartbroken as a father. He also apologized to the public and appealed to the youth to be far away from drugs with his son's lesson.

A number of celebrities including actor Gao Hu, screenwriter Ning Caishen, film director Zhang Yuan, and singer Li Daimo have been detained by police over drugs earlier this year.
