"7th Heaven" star Jessica Biel returns to television in USA Network crime thriller "The Sinner." She will not only star in the project but also executive produce it.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, USA Network has ordered a pilot for the drama "The Sinner." Biel is plotting her return to television. She is eyeing her first series-regular TV role since bidding "7th Heaven" farewell. She will star in as well as executive produce the drama through her and Michelle Purple's Iron Ocean Films banner.
"The Sinner" is based on Petra Hammesfahr's best-selling book of the same name, as TV Line reported. It is about a young mother who is overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage. She commits a startling and very public act of violence. She has no idea why, making it even worse. The event launches an inverted and utterly surprising crime thriller whose driving force is not only the who or the what but also the why.
As "The Sinner" series unfolds, a rogue investigator finds himself obsessed with uncovering the mother's buried motive. Together, they travel a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the secrets hidden in her past.
"The Astronauts Wives Club" writer Derek Simonds wrote "The Sinner." "Simon Killer" director Antonio Campos is set to direct the series. The two will also serve as executive producers alongside Biel. Universal Cable Productions will produce the hourlong drama.
"The Sinner" would mark Biel's first TV regular role in nearly 15 years. She was famously known on the long-running family drama "7th Heaven." However, she departed the series after six seasons, occasionally making guest appearances thereafter. Her most recent TV appearances were a guest role in one episode of "New Girl" Season 4 and voice roles on animated comedies "BoJack Horseman" and "Family Guy." She has mostly stuck to films in recent years such as "Valentine's Day" and "The Illusionist." She is represented by WME, LBI Entertainment, and Jackoway Tyerman.
