On Sept. 12, Kim Joo Na debuted as a singer with the release of her single "Summer Dream." The rookie singer was also asked about her half brother.
"Honestly, I believe this question could be an immensely heavy question for me. Firstly, what comes to mind when report about my family come out is that my brother worked extremely hard alone to rise up to his status," AllKpop quoted Joo Na as saying.
The rookie singer wanted to be known as a solo artist who has good promotions, and not just to be tag as the half sister of Soo Hyun. Additionally, she expressed that she supports her brother and that she always hope for her brother's success.
On July 22, an official statement was released by Soo Hyun's agency KeyEast to TV report stating that Joo Na is Soo Hyun's half sister but clarified that they never lived together. Soo Hyun also didn't know that Joo Na has plans on becoming a singer but send his warm regards now that he knows, KoreaBoo reported.
Joo Na is a "Produce 101" contestant, a 2016 singing reality survival show on MNET. Joo Na was not chosen to make her debut as a member of the show's temporary group project I.O.I but will be the first one to debut as a solo act.
On the show, the rookie singer gained attention due to her excellent vocals. However, Joo Na did not make it to the top 11 but has been widely acknowledged by trainers and her fellow trainees.
Meanwhile, "My Love from the Star" actor Soo Hyun, Joo Na's half brother became a household name in 2011 in the teen drama "Dream High" where he studied song and dance for three months at JYP Entertainment to meet the required scenes in the drama. He also recorded two songs for the show's soundtrack, "Dreaming" which is his solo and "Dream High" with the rest of the cast.
In related news, singer Kim Chung Hoon and leader of the band "Seven Dolphins" is the father of the actor Soo Hyun and singer Joo Na. It was reported that Chung Hoon left Soo Hyun and his mother while Soo Hyun was still young.
