"Mistresses" will not be returning for a fifth season. ABC has officially cancelled the series after four seasons of airing.
Following its Season 4 finale last Tuesday, ABC has opted to no longer grant "Mistresses" a Season 5 pickup - Deadline reported. The frothy drama, which stars Yunjin Kim and Rochelle Aytes, ended its final season with the death of Kim's character, Karen. The series finale's ratings recorded a total of 2.6 million viewers and a 0.6, under the 18-49 demographic.
According to reports, it is likely that the network has decided to axe "Mistresses" due to its decrease in ratings. In the contrary with the finale, it debuted in 2013 with a total of 4.4 million viewers and a 1.2 rating. No word yet if other networks are showing interest to revive the show.
Should "Mistresses" get resurrected, the audience may still expect for some resolution after the events in the series capper. Showrunner Rina Mimoun told TV Line earlier that they still have plans to sell a 13-episode final season with the network's executives. In case news of a revival arrive, the plan is to launch the final installments sometime in 2017.
"We really feel like there's one more year of story to tell, but we're also looking for a graceful way to wrap up the series," the showrunner told the publication.
"There'd be some new hot messes in the mix, and we'd be moving back toward the kind of racy romp that Mistresses was when it began."
"Mistresses" is based on the UK series of the same name. It also starred Alyssa Milano, Jes Macallan, Jennifer Esposito, Tabrett Bethell and Jason George over its four-year run on ABC.
