"The Punisher" television series is reportedly in development. "Chronicles of Narnia" actor Ben Barnes will reportedly join the show as a villain. The series is set in Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside other Marvel-Netflix's "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones," "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist."
Barnes is set to play a man named Bobby Saint, who once appeared in Thomas Jane's "The Punisher" film, TV Line reported. In the comic books, Bobby is the son of a corrupt businessman Howard Saint.
Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher played by Jon Bernthal made his debut in "Daredevil" Season 2 as the vigilante who crossed paths with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox). The character was met with enthusiasm and it did not take long for Netflix ordered a standalone series starring Bernthal with Steve Lightfood named as a showrunner.
The series is rumored to be released in 2017, Screen Rant reported. If this is true, the reported casting development should not be a surprise.
It has been reported earlier that "The Punisher" will also introduce David Lieberman a.k.a Microchip and that the casting is underway. The character have been an ally of Castle for many years, building weapons for his vigilante missions, supplying technology and providing friendship from time to time.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that the character was alluded to in the MCU. Back in Season 2 of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D," Skye a.k.a Daisy Johnson cited Micro as her source on a unique murder case.
Do note that none of these have been officially confirmed but if the project is moving along as expected, it won't be long before more updates will be announced. Stay tuned.
