Gina Torres, who plays Jessica Pearson on "Suits," has departed the legal drama. The actress has now boarded the cast of ABC's sophomore series, "The Catch."
According to Variety, Torres has landed a recurring role on the upcoming second season of "The Catch." However, details on her role are still being kept under wraps. Torres, who has been with Suits since its debut, joins previously announced guest star, TR Knight (Grey's Anatomy).
The midseason finale of "Suits" shocked viewers when it revealed that Jessica has decided to leave the firm. The episode, which aired last Wednesday, saw the formidable lawyer choosing between her career in New York and love life. As it happened, Jessica chose to move to Chicago with her ex-boyfriend, Jeff Malone (DB Woodside).
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Torres shared that her exit was something that's already been discussed with Suits' creator, Aaron Korsh. But Korsh, for his part, was not happy about the news. Talking about the way Jessica exited, Torres acknowledged that the writers plotted something open-ended to leave room for her return in the future.
"I think we needed to keep it as open ended as possible because we love Jessica and we can't stand the thought of never seeing her again," Torres said.
"So, I think when viewers actually see this, they'll feel sad - I hope - and maybe a little bit untethered, as will Harvey, but hopeful."
To this end, Torres remains positive that she will still be back on Suits in case the storyline calls for Jessica to resurface and rescue Harvey (Gabriel Macht) and Louis (Rick Hoffman).
"Suits" Season 6 will resume sometime in 2017.
