"The Lion Guard" actor Rob Lowe is starring in Jay Chandrasekhar's comedy "Super Troopers 2." He plays a hockey star-turned mayor.

According to Variety, Lowe plays the former hockey player Guy Le Franc. He is the current mayor of a Canadian town near Quebec. Lynda Carter will be joining him as Governor Jessman, Marisa Coughlan as Ursula, and Brian Cox as Captain O'Hagan.

"Super Troopers 2" reunites all five Troopers from the original film. Troopers included Jay Chandrasekhar (Arcot "Thorny" Ramathorn), Kevin Heffernan (Rodney Farva), Steve Lemme (MacIntyre "Mac" Womack), Paul Soter (Jeff Foster), and Erik Stolhanske (Robert "Rabbit" Roto). The quintet plays goofy Vermont state troopers with a penchant for pranks and feuding with other local law enforcement officers.

Chandrasekhar is directing the comedy sequel "Super Troopers 2", as he did on the original "Super Troopers." The comedy team Broken Lizard raised $4.4 million in a 30-day crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo last year to fund the sequel, Deadline reported. It saw more than 50,000 contributors. Donation incentives on the first day included a producer title for $10,000, a speaking actor role for $10,000, a trip to the ballpark with the main actors for $15,000, and the patrol car to be used in the filming for $35,000.

"Super Troopers 2" met the initial goal of $2 million (set by Fox Searchlight) in 26 hours. Fox Searchlight is releasing the picture in North America. Broken Lizard members Chandrasekhar, Heffernan, Lemme, Soter, and Stolhanske also wrote the script. Richard Perello is on board again to produce this one. He also produced the original film. To recall, the original "Super Troopers" was made for $1.2 million and acquired by Fox Searchlight at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival. It grossed $23 million worldwide.

The production on "Super Troopers 2" already began in Boston last week.
