The Japanese-American actor George Takei joined the list of several celebrities honoured with Sardi's portrait. The Broadway actor and "Star Trek" star received the portrait at the legendary theatre district restaurant of New York City on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016.
According to the Broadway World, George Takei was accompanied by his fellow Broadway actress Lea Salonga and other co-stars from his latest Broadway musical "Allegiance" when the actor unveiled his Sardi's portrait at the restaurant. George Takei is an actor noted for his role as Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the USS Enterprise, in the TV series "Star Trek." He has appeared in six "Star Trek" movies. He is also supporter of LGBT rights, a well-known activist and has more than nine million followers on his Facebook page. He is an author of the "To the Stars" and a director. He has received several laurels and accolades.
Currently, George Takei's is leading the cast of the Broadway musical "Allegiance" that opened on Nov. 8, 2015 in Longacre Theatre. The show will close in February 2016 after featuring 37 previews. "Allegiance" is based on the true life events of George Takei. Set during the Japanese American internment of World War II, the show depicts the story of Kimura family, who were force to abandon their home and relocate after the pearl harbour attack. It is the story of true human spirit, family bonds, valour and patriotism.
