"Deepwater Horizon" actor Mark Wahlberg is set to star with NBA superstar LeBron James in the basketball fantasy camp comedy movie "Ballers." He might soon score a Hollywood hit, but the upcoming movie is not "Space Jam 2."
According to Variety, Wahlberg revealed that he was in discussions for a role in "Ballers." During a TV appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," he showed the audience a photo of himself with Cleveland Cavaliers player James at his home gym.
Wahlberg said that he and James have a great idea to do a movie together in "Ballers." They will have a situation wherein they go to one of these fantasy camps since the movie is based on the fantasy league.
"Ballers" is set up at Universal and Imagine Entertainment. Three years ago, it was originally going to co-star "The Wedding Ringer" actor Kevin Hart, who is no longer attached to the project, as IGN reported. Hart was supposed to play as the brother of an NBA superstar at a weekend fantasy camp.
"Entourage" creator Doug Ellin has come on board to write the script for "Ballers." The earlier drafts were written by Hart with Chris Spencer, Joey Wells, and Harry Ratchford.
Wahlberg will be seen next in Lionsgate's action-adventure "Deepwater Horizon," alongside Kate Hudson and Dylan O'Brien. He not only played Mike Williams but also executive produce it. The film opens on Sept. 30.
James received positive responses for his comic talent in Amy Schumer's romantic comedy "Trainwreck" last year. He played himself as Bill Hader's friend.
James is also set to make an appearance in the upcoming "Space Jam" sequel that "Fast and Furious 6" director Justin Lin is being helmed. He is also an executive producer on the TV comedy series "Survivor's Remorse" Season 3.
Brian Grazer and Michael Rosenberg are producing the "Ballers." It is not clear whether Wahlberg will be joining them as producer.
