Rumors have emerged that the Sacramento Kings could trade Ben McLemore to the Milwaukee Bucks for Michael Carter-Williams as the club is still in the hunt for a potential replacement for Rajon Rondo as starting point guard.
At this time, the Kings are left with only Darren Collison as their only reliable option at point guard. Collison mostly played at the two-guard spot last season with Rondo manning the point most of the time.
Sacramento signed journeyman Ty Lawson last month to a one-year veteran's minimum deal to somehow take care of the issue, but team officials deemed it not enough to ensure steady play at the position this upcoming season.
Thus, a trade with the Bucks for their own starting floor general, Carter-Williams, has been circling the rumor mill as of late.
Chat Sports Net reported that the Kings "need a guard who is willing to feed DeMarcus Cousins the ball as well as spread the ball to the rest of the team". Sacramento is looking to finally advance to the playoffs this coming year, and Carter-Williams could be the solution to their woes.
With a 6-foot-6, 190-pound frame, he is big for a point guard and is considered as one of the best young all-around players in the NBA right now, averaging 14.5 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.7 steals in his so far three-year professional career.
Meanwhile, McLemore had been involved in trade rumors since last summer and RealGM indicated that the 6-foot-5 former Kansas Jayhawks standout "has been available in trade talks for months".
The Kings seemed to have moved on from the 2013 draft's seventh overall pick ever since acquiring Arron Afflalo via free-agency last July.
McLemore had his share of inconsistencies in play during his three-season tenure in Sacramento, which may have made team vice-president and general manager Vlade Divac deem him as expendable.
Last season, McLemore averaged only 7.8 points, 2.2 boards, and 1.2 dimes in 21.2 minutes of playing time a night, a big drop in form from his previous averages of 12.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 32.6 minutes per game in 2014-2015.
With Afflalo now on board, McLemore is expected to play a much lesser role in new head coach David Joerger's lineup.
It remains to be seen, though, whether the Bucks will approve of such a deal since Carter-Williams is their most reliable point guard to date.
Milwaukee has acquired Matthew Dellavedova this summer and if head coach Jason Kidd sees the Aussie enough to be his starter then a trade could really take place.
