Mo Williams suddenly announced his retirement on Monday just before Cavaliers would go to NBA media day. Afterwards, the Cavaliers immediately looks for free agent to substitute point guard and to backup Kyle Lowry.

According to cleveland.com, 10 minutes before Cavaliers GM David Griffin and coach Tyron Lue were about to enter the podium for NBA media day, Williams' agent Raymond Brothers called Griffin. The agent said that Williams would not join the Cavaliers training camp and decided to retire. Previously, Williams had a second thought about his decision to play for one more season as Griffin said.

"Throughout the summer, it was in debate on what Mo was going to choose to do," said Griffin. "He vacillated a little bit, and so we were planning on this eventuality throughout."

The decision was unexpected because according to Fox Sports, Williams had indicated he was returning just a week ago. In his last season's appearance with the Cavs, Williams averaged 8.2 points and 2.3 assists in 41 regular season games.

Without Williams, the Cavs now has only Kyrie Irving as the main point guard and behind him is the rookie Kay Felder. The team contacted three free agent point guards, Norris Cole, Mario Chalmers, and Kirk Hinrich.

Norris Cole is the veteran point guard who played with LeBron James in Miami Heat when they won the 2012 and 2013 championship. He played fo two seasons with New Orleans Pelicans and he averaged 10.2 points and 3.4 assists per game in his two seasons in NOLA.

Mario Chalmers was also the member of 2012 and 2013 Miami Heat championship squad. He was traded to Memphis Grizzlies last season where he made a solid contribution to the team, averaging 10.8 points and 3.8 assists per game. Grizzlies waived him this season

The last option is Kirk Hinrich. He became free agents this year after his one year contract with Atlanta Hawks ended. In his entire career he averaged 10.9 points and 4.8 assists per game, and he also a sharp three-point shooter with 37.5 percent average

Cleveland Cavaliers immediately need a backup point guard for Kyle Lowrie,as the team has already begun training camp this week. The Cavs will start the NBA pre-season in Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland on Oct. 5 against Orlando Magic.
