"Nocturnal Animals" actor Jake Gyllenhaal and "Suffragette" actress Carey Mulligan are attached to star in an adaptation of Richard Ford's novel "Wildlife." The film is the directorial debut of "Prisoners" actor Paul Dano.
"Wildlife" marks the first time that Gyllenhaal and Mulligan are together on the big screen. However, there is no confirmation yet on what roles they are going to play.
The script for "Wildlife" is co-written by Dano and "Ruby Sparks" writer Zoe Kazan. It is based on the 1990 novel that Ford wrote. It centers on the narration of a teenage boy.
In the plot of "Wildlife," the boy witnessed the marriage of his parents starting to come apart after their move to Montana, as Variety reported. He was still 16 when his father was not working. Her mother met a man named Warren Miller and fell in love with him.
According to Deadline, the producers of "Wildlife" include Andrew Duncan and Alex Saks for June Pictures, Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker for Nine Stories, Oren Moverman, Ann Ruark, and Dano. The executive producers are Kazan and Eddie Vaisman. WME Global will handle the domestic rights.
Gyllenhaal is currently filming "Life" for Skydance. He just recently starred in Tom Ford's drama thriller "Nocturnal Animals" with Amy Adams. He also starred and produced David Gordon Green's drama film "Stronger."
Mulligan was last seen in the Focus' historical drama film "Suffragette." She just finished filming Dee Rees' period drama "Mudbound" with Jason Clarke. To recall, she was an Oscar nominee for 2010's An Education.
Both Gyllenhaal and Mulligan are repped by WME. The production of "Wildlife" is going to shoot in Montana and Oklahoma this coming November.
