The launch of Microsoft's Surface Pro 5 might arrive sooner than expected, as sources say that the company plans to unveil a Surface-branded device before the end of the month.
Following Microsoft's introduction of the well-received Surface Pro in October last year, consumers who are eager to check out the faster and upgraded version of the hybrid laptop might just have to wait a few days more. According to ZDNET, Surface Pro 5 is being predicted to get launched as part of the company's fall hardware launch slated to kick off later this month. The report also said that the upcoming product is being called "Cardinal," as a code name.
While this is only a speculation, additional specifications to be expected from the Surface Pro 5 have also gotten out. Aside from being dubbed as Surface's "All-In-One" device, Windows Central reported that the updated version is being tested with larger screen sizes with a 4K display starting from a 21-inch, 24-inch and 27-inch as the maximum. However, it is unclear if Microsoft will launch the device in all three sizes.
Previous rumors about the Surface Pro 5 include a USB C-port, replacing the old version's 3.0 port - a feature which is basically useful for charging. Cameras and PC Connections (Bluetooth and wifi) are also being eyed to get an upgrade.
Microsoft has declined to comment about the rumors, including the existence and potential launch date of Cardinal on October 26 this year. Should the Surface Pro 5 remain under wraps on the projected date, the March 2017 forecast is the latest date being considered. This is likely due to the product's manufacturing process which is being rumored to include the Intel Kaby Lake processor.
As for pricing, the speculated price tag for the Surface Pro 5 is said to be within the same range with its predecessor.
