Netflix continues their commitment in delivering series adaptation of Marvel characters with the recent release of "Luke Cage." Although its release was initially scheduled after "Iron Fist," series creator Cheo Hodari Coker explains why they finally changed the schedules of the superhero adaptation.
According to Screencrush, the series premiere of the superheroes ultimately swapped was very simple: Mike Colter, who plays the titular character, stood out on "Jessica Jones." His portrayal as a superhero while taking part of Jones' various adventures made him one of the must see characters of the series.
For the unfamiliar, "Luke Cage" is a superhero known for his unbreakable skin and strength which ultimately makes him nearly indestructible. But instead of a regular superhero that you see with full cape or costume, Cage is a gritty crime fighter who made himself the protector of Harlem.
The decision in swapping the schedule of two superheroes immediately paid off. All episodes were simultaneously released for viewing via Netflix last Sep. 30 and the reviews are mostly positive. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the series is currently at 95% citing the charismatic lead character with impressive narrative.
Because of the switch in schedule, "Iron Fist" is pushed back to 2017 and Marvel is in a momentum of releasing more superhero series through the popular video streaming provider. After "Iron Fist," Netflix and Marvel will focus their efforts in releasing "The Defenders" which will feature the superheroes featured in Netflix. Once the combined powers of the "The Defenders" land in Netflix, each character continues with their respective series starting in 2018.
Aside from the main characters from Netflix and Marvel appearing in "The Defenders," one name is set to have its own adaptation in small screen. In season 2 of "Daredevil," Punisher made his first appearance and he is also set to be part of the increasingly large superhero mash-up in Netflix. Unfortunately, Marvel and Netflix has yet to announce the spin-off for Punisher.
The success of "Luke Cage" continues as he takes over "Iron Fist" in Netflix streaming schedule. As more characters add-up, the Marvel universe set in small screen continue to expand as it also introduces more villains in bigger settings.
